About Us

Amateur Radio Direction Finding in Texas has begun with Jen Harker W5JEN, Ken Harker WM5R, and Mike Urich KA5CVH. Jen and Ken are located in Austin, and Mike is located in Clear Lake, south of Houston. All three are members of the Houston Orienteering Club and are licensed Amateur Radio operators.

Jen and Ken have both competed in three USA ARDF Championships, two of which were also designated IARU Region II championships. Jen has earned four gold medals in the USA championships since 2002.

Mike has been active for many years in the organization of HOC meets and events, and has been a driving force behind the LaPorte High School JROTC and Team Texas juniors orienteering teams.

The group is looking forward to offering some ARDF competitions on HOC maps in the Houston and central Texas areas. We are also planning more regular small events in neighborhood parks in Austin and other places.
